Mr. Schmidt is a Registered Professional
Forester in both Ontario and Nova Scotia with a formal
university education centered on Forest and Natural Resource
Management. Mr. Schmidt holds a Diploma in Forest Technology
and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry from at Lakehead
University in Ontario. He also obtained a Masters Degree in
Forestry from the University of New Brunswick. His applied
skills include research coordination, project management,
spatial analysis, remote sensing and aerial imaging. Mr.
Schmidt has an in depth understanding of raster and vector
based GIS which he developed over the last 18 years.
Kirk has been involved in a broad range of activities that
dealt with specific GIS data acquisition and management
projects. Kirk was instrumental in developing and refining an
aerial imaging system for acquiring cost effective imagery for
spatial database updating. The system has since been used in a
variety of applications which include pipeline right of way
mapping, mapping forest harvest operations, developing forest
inventories, estimating biomass loadings and studying various
aquatic and estuarine ecosystems. Aerial imagery has also been
obtained for asset documentation of infrastructure including
wharfs, harbours and commercial and private real estate
developments,
Kirk has worked with industrial resource managers throughout
central and eastern Canada on a wide range of GIS related
projects that range from basic data automation to remote
sensing using satellite imagery. Over the last 3 years, Mr.
Schmidt has become increasingly involved in providing GIS
related services to the developing Wind Industry in Eastern
Canada.
